The God Jar

Letting go and letting God can be very difficult for one to do.  When I was first told to turn my problems over to God it was very hard for me to understand, and quite honestly I didn’t think I could do it.

Thoughts raced through my mind.  How did I know that God really knew what the problems were?  What if God didn’t have any idea how to solve my problems?  Maybe God needed my help and suggestions.  What if God was too busy to work on my problems?

One day a friend asked me if I had a God Jar  I thought to myself, what is she talking about?

She explained that a God Jar is any kind of receptacle, a box, a jar, a bag, or even a basket; anything that can hold paper.  I was to write each of my problems on a piece of paper and put them in the God Jar.  In essence, I was to put all my problems in God’s Hands.  I followed the instructions and wrote my first problem and placed it in The God Jar.

Each time I placed a piece of paper in the jar, I said a little prayer.  At first I kept opening up The God Jar to check on the piece of paper, just to be sure God was on the job.  But soon, I realized by doing so I was not learning to trust God to take care of my problems.

After awhile I added different colored pieces of paper and would assign a certain color to a certain family member or friend.  I dated each piece of paper and signed my name with love.  It made me feel like I was actually talking to a friend who really cared about me.  As I went about my day I could see at a glance that each of my requests were safe in God’s hands.

If I filled the jar, I would just start another new one or take out the old ones, read them, and realize that God had taken care of the problem I had put into His Hands.

I found that God’s solutions for solving my problems were better than my worrying and trying to solve them on my own.  My life is now more God centered since I no longer worry about, people, places, and things I cannot control.  I hope this simple little act will be of value in your life as well.

I got this idea quite some time ago from The Unity Magazine and have over the years shared it with others.  Recently someone told me that The God Jars I have given to them have been passed on and shared with other people, children included.  This is an inexpensive idea and you will be amazed at how they work in the lives of those in need. Just print this page out and place it in a God Jar today for someone you know that might benefit from having one. I also add the colored paper and a pen.  That way they have everything they need to get started.   Then sit back and watch Him work…
